75 Danish commandos and a Hercules transport carrier’s departure to Afghanistan has been postponed for the fifth week in a row, after rumours that the local authorities in Afghanistan are demanding bribes before granting permission for NATO soldiers to set foot in the country. ‘Although I support our participation, I find it quite unreasonable that we should be asked to pay a bribe to a country we are trying to help,’ says The Danish People’s Party defence spokesman, Peter Skaarup, who has now asked Minister of Defence, Svend Aage Jensby, to clarify the situation.  ¶ 2/21/2002 10:24:00 PM
